For over the past couple of months, many around the basketball community have been familiar with the Ball family out of Chino Hills, CA, but more so Lavar Ball. Lavar is the father of high school phenoms LaMelo and LiAngelo, and UCLA star freshman Lonzo Ball, who many expect to be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.
However, many are critical of how Lavar is handling the spotlight, especially when talking about his kids. “Lonzo is better than Stephen Curry, I can beat Jordan 1-on-1, I want a billion dollar deal for all my boys,” etc.
With Ball saying these things, he has put immense pressure on his kids and also himself. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was on ESPN Radio’s Waddle & Silvy yesterday where he spoke about Lavar.
“The fact that everybody keeps talking about him, he seems to be accomplishing whatever he’s trying to accomplish because the things he says are so outlandish,” Kerr exclaimed. “But he keeps getting headlines, and I guess that’s what he wants.
In fact, Lavar has been getting a plethora of headlines as explained earlier. Just recently, he went on a barrage of comments about Jordan and even Charles Barkley saying that he could beat both of them right now.
Kerr also went on about Lavar’s high school kids, LaMelo and LiAngelo, both of whom are UCLA commits.
“I don’t think it’s helping his kids,” Kerr said. “I think it’d be better for them if they can just play and have fun and not have to hear that every day, but whatever. It’s all part of him.”
