Chris Childs Says That He Could Have Knocked Kobe Bryant Out

on

We all remember the infamous brawl between Chris Childs and Kobe Bryant, back in the 1999-2000 NBA season.  It seems like it just happened a few years ago because people are constantly bringing it up.  Well ESPN’s True Hoop podcast, caught up with Chris to discuss the state of the New York Knicks, and of course the Kobe fight.

Chris said that he could have done Kobe Bryant worse than what he did to him.  He says the only reason why he didn’t knock Kobe out, is because he didn’t want to hurt him.  Check out Chris’ full statement.

“If you watch the tape, he elbowed me twice,” Chris said. “He started it. I looked at the ref and said, ‘Are you gonna do something about this?’ He put his hands out like, ‘Whatever.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, no problem, I got this.’ We run up and down the court and I say, ‘Young fella, if you do that again, I’m gonna take off on you. I’m gonna take off.’ And he said, ‘You aren’t going to do that.’ When you watch the tape, when he comes around a pick, he kind of lightweight head butts me to get me off. Once he did that, he’s taller than me and I’m in striking distance. I took off on him. I didn’t want to knock him out, because I could have. But if I did, I’d still be suspended right now. I didn’t put the shoulder in or lean in to it. I didn’t want to hurt him.”

Although his punch wasn’t that powerful, the fans still get a good laugh at the mini scuffle between the two.  But if these two got in the ring, I would put my money on Kobe because he has the length, and would probably be in amazing shape if they had an official boxing match.
