Derrick Rose Set to Rejoin Cavs

After a 12-game absence from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Derrick Rose is ready to return to basketball.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed this morning that Rose, who is dealing with yet another injury, plans to return to the team in the near future. Rose had been away from the team completely during this time, and had likely considered walking away from basketball altogether.

The Cavs (16-7) are currently sporting an 11-game win streak, surging up to 2nd in the East, just three games behind the Celtics (20-4). All of this has occurred, without Derrick Rose.

Jose Calderon has been the biggest beneficiary of Rose’s absence, averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 assists over 18.8 minutes per contest in the last 10 games. His usage has been rather minimal however, as LeBron remains the primary ball-handler.

Rose’s role on the team will likely take a hit with the looming return of two-time all-star Isaiah Thomas, who is expected to take over the starting role once we reach 2018.

Rose is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and it remains to be known what his future in basketball really is.
