Rookies of the Month – December


The NBA has announced that Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell have been named Rookie of the Month, respectively for the Eastern and Western conferences, for the month of December.

Jayson played and started in all 17 of Boston’s games in December, averaging 14.6 points 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 32 minutes per game. He shot 23 of 51 from 3pt, good for 45%. He also shot 53% from the floor and 82% from the free throw line.

Tatum scored in double figures in 14 of the 17 games in the month. He scored exactly 20 points twice, including the Christmas Day game against Washington which saw him lead the Celtics in scoring. He recorded exactly 10 rebounds three times, and was able to turn two of those into double-double performances.

Donovan started and appeared in 13 of Utah’s 15 games for the month. He averaged 23.1 points 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, while shooting 50% from the field, 35% from 3PT, and 88% from the charity stripe.

Mitchell kicked off his dominant month by pouring in a current career-high 41 points on December 1st against the Pelicans. Only once did he fail to reach double-digit scoring, and he dropped 20 or more points nine times. His career best 9 assists came in a 12 point victory at Boston on December 15th.
